Where are you living now? Switzerland
Email Address: angelainthehills@yahoo.com
Tell us about your husband? I met Joel in 1991 while serving a mission for my (LDS) church in Vienna, Austria. We were married in August 1993 and spent our first year of marriage as poor students at Brigham Young University. He is tall (6'6"), dark (starting to gray--probably from being married to me!) and very handsome! He is intelligent, hard working, and very kind.
And your kids? I have four kids: Samuel (13), Alex (12), Emma (10) and Josiah (7). They are perfect, huh hum.
They all attend an International School in Zurich and are having the most amazing experiences. A few weeks ago, they went on field week with their school classes. Sam went to Venice; Alex went to Cortona, Italy; and Emma spent the week in the Swiss National Park. Josiah hung out with me and we took a day to Luzern.Sam is good at math and science. He runs cross-country and rock-climbs. Alex plays soccer and his PSP very well. He is good at English and amazes us with his descriptive vocabulary. Emma enjoys horse-riding and friends and dressing up. JoJo is a ball of fire and makes our family popular. The identity of our family revolves around Josiah, as we are all fondly referred to as "his," i.e. I am universally known as "JoJo's Mom."
Occupation: Homemaker, Class parent, Sunday School Teacher, Cheufer, Chef, Boy Scout Den Leader, Nurse, Jane of all trades...Where have you lived since LCHS? Provo, Utah; Langley AFB, Virginia; Kaiserslautern, Germany; Vienna, Austria; West Valley, Utah; Leeds, England; Saratoga Springs, Utah; Zurich, Switzerland
What would you consider to be your greatest accomplishment? I can't say just one. I'll give you the top 5:1. Marrying FAR above myself and finding the most perfect, loving and wonderful husband.2. Mothering, nurturing and caring for the 4 most amazing kids in the world.3. Graduating from BYU with a BS in Human Development4. Serving a fulltime mission for the LDS Church in Vienna, Austria, which included becoming fluent in German, loving and serving people and working with immigrants from over 40 different countries around the world.5. Surviving Cancer. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in July 1996, when my firstborn was 11 months old. I had 14 months of Chemotherapy which took my hair and my fertility. I have since grown a full head of hair and adopted 3 more beautiful children. I am now a decade "safe" and am considered cured.
If you could go back and do anything differently, what would it be? If I could go back, I would be less selfish and reach out more to others. I would have been a better friend, more accepting and more forgiving.
What is the one thing you know now that you wish you knew then? This is actually awkward to express but it is my honest answer. What I now know that I didn't back then is my personal worth. I wish I could have felt better about myself back then. I think the whole experience would have been entirely different if I had respected myself and others they way I do today.
What do you miss the most about LCHS? What I miss most about high school is my dear friends. Other than that, I miss absolutely nothing!
What was the best part of attending school in England? The best part about attending school in England was the cultural opportunities. I loved the theatre, like getting to see Les Miserable, Shakespeare, The Terry Wogan show, etc. I also loved the countryside and the diversity. The worst part was coming back to America and having to take driving lessons at age 19! Embarrassing.
Why do you think we all have such a unique bond? We were a bunch of American kids thrown into a strange culture and school and only had each other to cling to. We had to quickly make new friends and support each other like family while we were so far away from home. Its kind of like that tv show "Lost." These people became really close very fast because they had to survive and they had to trust and depend on one another.
What was your favorite class? Drama and Shakespeare
And your favorite teacher? Mr. Thornton (Spanish) and Mr. Wernette
What is your favorite memory?
Here's my top 5:
1. Carousel
2. Volleyball & Basketball teams
3. Godspell
4. Senior Skip day in London
5. Pizza Hut
