Jill (Hutchison) Baker '87

*************************************************

Will you be attending the reunion? Yes, officially registered now and will be rooming with Sarai (Warren) Zyzniewski

Where are you living now? Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Tell us about your husband? I met Phil here in Sioux Falls, SD eight years ago (although I
had first seen him walking through campus at SDSU with a guitar slung over his back years before that). My husband writes and performs music for children. His website is philbakermusic.com.

When did you get married? 2001

And your kids? We have two sons, Philip (age 5) and Sean (age 2). Those of you with children know that they keep you VERY busy at this age. Our lives revolve around them right now.

Occupation: Help out with music business and SAHM

Where have you lived since LCHS? I joined the army right out of HS. Military service time frame: Ft. McLellan, AL for BT; Redstone Arsenal, AL for AIT; Ft. Drum, NY and Ft. Carson, CO. College time frame: Vermillion, SD (USD); Brookings, SD (SDSU). Moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1994 and haven't left.
What would you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?
Running a children's music business with my husband.
If you could go back and do anything differently, what would it be? I wish I had done more with my singing. But, then again, our life experiences have made us what we are today, and I can't imagine life without the fam now. They were worth the wait.

What do you know now that you wish you knew then? People are just people.

What do you miss most about LCHS? I miss the fact that I didn't get to graduate at LCHS. Starting your senior year in a different high school (public) isn't exactly easy.

What was the best part of attending school in England? Being able to experience the real world outside of the US bubble of ignorance.

Why do you think we have such a unique bond? Military brats need each other - we were hauled all over the world as children and young adults. We latch on quickly and can hopefully hold on to a few through the years. It's hard to keep in touch - we're scattered everywhere! I live in a city with no major military installation, so I get few chances to connect with other military brats. I feel an instant connection when I actually meet someone with a military background, a comforting sense of camaraderie.

What was your favorite class? Choir

Who was your favorite teacher? None stick out

What is your favorite memory? Going on a weekend school trip to London to see 42nd Street. It took my breath away.
