John Swanson '88

**************************************************
Will you be attending the reunion? Plan to, but I haven’t registered yet.

Where are you living now? Destrehan, Louisiana

Tell us about your wife: I met my wife through a close friend. Our first date was at a softball game...romantic, I know! I did buy frozen yogurt afterwards. We got married in March of 1996. Allison is a wonderful wife (has to be to put up with me) and a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Any kids? We have a son, Adam. He is 10 years old and thankfully he got his Mother's brains. He loves soccer, baseball and video games. He is such a blessing. We also have a couple of miniature schnauzers...Koal and Sydney. They don't know that they are dogs...and we are telling.

Occupation: Mechanical Engineer

Where have you lived since graduation? I moved to the Shreveport, LA area (Barksdale AFB)in 1989, where my Dad retired. I went to college at LA Tech University and went to work for Pennzoil Products. I moved to the New Orleans area about 2 years ago where I work for Valero Energy. Throw in hobbies, getting married and having a kid...I have had plenty of excitement.

What would you consider to be your greatest accomplishment? Finishing college, settling down & getting married and having a wonderful child. I have also learned patience...now I know what my parents went through. Really, Adam is a joy and I am glad that he isn't nearly as bad as I was.

If you could go back and do anything differently, what would it be? I would change my views and actions with some situations that I handled very poorly.
What is the one thing you know now that you wish you knew then? I don't really know...I am pretty sure that I knew everything in high school and I know much less now. I wish I would have paid attention in class!

What do you miss most about LCHS? The dorms, the sports and the "family" atmosphere.

What was the best part of going to school in England? Being able to play soccer in Amsterdam and traveling for a year after graduation.
Why do you think we have such a unique bond? We were all forced together in a foreign country and we just made it happen! It was a great experience.

Favorite Class: Math/Chemistry - it is a toss-up.
Favorite Teacher: Mr. Svec
Do you have a favorite memory? There are really too many to count. The SOS day at the cafeteria and the AYA...pretty silly, I know. I really enjoyed all of the guys that I played football and soccer with. I still talk about Room 35...I am surprised that someone didn't get killed in one of those meetings! I will never forget my roommate and great friend Tony Peterson (whether he knew it or not).
Anything else you want to share? I am glad that I was at LCHS and attribute some of my successes to the experiences from there.
